Greg Tepper founded Russiatours, Inc. (later renamed Exeter International) in 1992 in order to provide travelers a new way to visit Central and Eastern Europe and Russia. With the Iron Curtain gone, a totally new approach to travel in Eastern Europe was now possible: luxury, customized travel. The mandatory depressing hotels and horrible restaurants of those autocratic itineraries are now past; replaced by stunning five-star hotels, beautifully renovated properties, and personally tailored trips to once inconvenient destinations. Exeter International has been helping travelers enjoy these regions since 1992, and has established itself as the leading deluxe tour operator to Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.
Today what sets Exeter International apart from all other tour companies is our attention to detail. Our Extraordinary Experiences provide our guests with intimate experiences that are otherwise difficult for others to arrange in this part of the world. Deluxe hotels and fabulous restaurants are numerous throughout Eastern Europe, but the sophisticated traveler wants more than just a pleasant place to stay. With extraordinary connections in all the major cities of Eastern Europe, such as Prague and Budapest, Exeter International is able to take our clients behind the scenes like no other company can. Backstage tours, gala dinners in private palaces and world-famous lecturers are all staples of travelling with Exeter International.
Exeter International now sends over 1,500 deluxe travelers to Russia and Eastern Europe each year. Our company has been listed in Travel + Leisure as one of the top custom travel arrangers in the US and also on Travel + Leisure’s A-List of the top 70 travel agents and consultants in the US Condé Nast has listed Greg Tepper in its top travel agent lists every year since 2001 in addition to having him on their Travel Agent Advisory Board. Our agents Gwen Kozlowski and Alex Datsev can be found on Condé Nast’s list of top agents as well. Exeter International tours have been written about in the New York Times, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, the Wall Street Journal, Town & Country magazine, Departures magazine, Food & Wine, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the Financial Times and many other publications. We are also marketing partners to Virtuoso and Signature, two of the most prestigious associations of travel agents in the world.
In June 2005, Exeter International opened a new office in London headed by Ala Osmond (formerly of Rocco Forte Hotels) to begin marketing our services to the UK, Ireland and parts of continental Europe. This location joins our family of offices in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev, all of which specialize in deluxe outbound travel for the Russian market, and allow us to ensure Exeter’s service and support is never too far away from your trip!
The value of booking your holiday with Exeter International includes:
We are passionate about our destinations, but we understand that independent travel can sometimes be challenging. Guide books are out of date even before they are published, and it’s not so much a case of what you know as who you know. We cultivate our extensive local contacts and travel to our destinations regularly to update our knowledge.
Our Exeter team has traveled, lived, researched and studied our part of the world. Several of our staff have been named to the extraordinarily prestigious Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure lists of top travel specialists. Use our knowledge and expertise to ensure you have the best experience and make the most of your time. We can design a trip that will avoid poor flight connections, crowds at museums (as much as possible) and make your vacation unique. This takes planning and experience and is our specialty.
We go beyond the well-known sites to allow you to discover little-known museums or street markets off the beaten track. And more importantly, we’ll open doors that are closed to the general public.
Different, unusual and often closed to the general public–we can offer special insider access that defines experiential travel.
We know that selecting the right guide can be the single most important factor in the enjoyment of your vacation. Exeter guides are handpicked and have benefited from years of training. You will not be stuck with a guide that has poor English or a lack of knowledge.
Skip the Line
Avoiding long waits in museum lines is one of our top priorities. Because we pre-purchase most museum tickets and make appointments wherever possible, we minimize waiting time to get into the most popular sights in each city.
We book a number of people at all our partner hotels, giving us preferred rates, clout and often availability to rooms even on very busy dates. Expect added amenities and often complimentary upgrades upon check-in at our partner hotels (subject to availability).
Peace of Mind in Your Destination
Wherever you travel with Exeter International, you will have 24-hour access to a local contact. Your contact will be there for you to coordinate any changes in your program between cities or help you in the case of an emergency. All logistical changes will be handled by our local staff, giving you peace of mind.
Because we are independent we can offer truly impartial advice.
