The Renaissance of Elegant Travel to Eastern Europe and Russia

Baltics: Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius

These three former Soviet Republics have come into their own over the past several years. Their national identities have been restored and their economies are booming, making now the time to visit.

In antiquity this region was known as the Amber Coast – so described by the Greek poet Homer after the golden translucent resin found off Baltic shores.  Although their histories will always be intertwined by the 1940 Soviet occupation, the three Baltic States remain as distinct as they are similar.

In Depth

The Baltics offer a rich Jewish history and you may want to extend your trip to include Klaipeda, the second-city to Vilnius for Jewish culture. Another city rich in Jewish Heritage is Dagda, in the Latvian countryside.

For the ultimate in relaxation, luxuriate for a few days on the Baltic Sea at Pädaste Manor, located on Muhu Island. Just off Estonia’s coast, this tiny resort features fine cuisine and a world-class spa.
