Extending your visit
From Dubrovnik the Mljet archipelago is a delightful day-trip. These pristine islands are a gorgeous get-away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and there is a beautiful monastery in the center of the lake on the largest island. The Elaphite Archipelago and Lokrum are also great get-aways.
For those interested in nature, we recommend the Krka Waterfalls just north of Split. If you like active vacations and have a fascination for the outdoors, river-rafting and horseback riding in the Croatian hinterland around Split is something not to be missed. For water-lovers, there is terrific snorkeling and scuba diving off the Dalmatian coast, especially around Korcula, and the lesser-known islands of Pakleni and Vis.
For those interested in nature, the lakes and waterfalls of Plitvice make an excellent day trip from Zagreb. Zagreb and Istria can also be combined very easily with visits to Slovenia and the Dalmatian Coast.
Day trips to the historic towns of Budva and Kotor in Montenegro are also an excellent option. Kotor is only an hour away from Dubrovnik.
