Extending Your Visit
The Golden Ring is filled with villages extending to the North and East of Moscow. A week would not be too long to devote to this fascinating region. For those who appreciate the stunning lacquered boxes so prominent in Russia, will want to spend a couple of days visiting the towns of Palekh, Kholui and Mstera. Romanov history abounds in Kostroma to the north, where Mikhail Romanov was living when he was brought back to Moscow to become tsar and begin the Romanov dynasty that would last 300 years.
