Hotel St. George, Helsinki

The Hotel St. George is located in a historic building, originally opened in in 1871 as a printing house. Today the impressive granite building is a pioneering example of Finnish national romanticism and remains one of Helsinki’s most renowned national monuments. Renovated into the ideal of 21st century comfort in 2018, the Hotel St. George offers its guest stylish, modern accommodations with an optimal location just steps away from the highlights of Helsinki.

Guests of the hotel will be offered access to their pool, sauna, relaxation space, treatment rooms, and a gym that focusses on functional training.  Also available on the premises are two restaurants: Restaurant Andera and Wintergarden and a bakery, St. George Bakery.

Hotel Haven, Helsinki

The Hotel Haven is a boutique hotel overlooking the Helsinki Harbour on Helsinki’s market Square, giving it an ideal location for exploring the city or shopping in the Esplanadi shopping district.  Most rooms are located in the original portion of the hotel, with the remainder in the newer portion opened in 2017.  The rooms and lobby are designed with modern décor and Scandinavian accents.  Guests can enjoy drinks next to the lounge fireplace.  Breakfast is served in the atmospheric interior of the second oldest stone building in Helsinki.   You will have beautiful views of the Market Square and the harbor while dining in the mornings.

Hotel amenities for all 137 rooms includes air-conditioned rooms, Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems, Egyptian cotton linens, and Elemis spa toiletries in bathrooms.  The hotel also has free Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, babysitting services, and a fitness room.

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, Finnish Lapland

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, located just 30 minutes from Ivalo airport, is one of Finnish Lapland’s greatest gems.  Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is located a short distance from Finland’s largest national park, Urho Kekkonen, one of the country’s greatest hiking destinations.

The resort features several different types of accommodation ranging from traditional cabins to hybrid cabin/igloos to traditional snow igloos. Their Glass Igloos accommodate two or four guests and are available during the winter season. Our favorite accommodation is the Kelo-Glass Igloos, a perfect combination of glass igloo and Lappish cabin, built from local Kelo pinewood. The resort also offers traditional log cabin chalets, suites and homes, offering accommodation options to meet the needs of each and every guest.

We recommend 3-4 nights at Kakslauttaten Arctic Resort, in order to take full advantage of all of the activities available, as well as, have the greatest chance of seeing the northern lights. The resort offers unique winter activities including, husky safaris, reindeer safaris hosted by local Sami herders, horse-riding and sleigh riding and even ice fishing. For those traveling with children, it is also possible to visit Santa’s home!  Perhaps one of the most impactful experiences is getting to visit and speak to local Sami people, to learn about their history in this part of the world, as well as, experience their daily life. Interestingly the Sami people have no racial or linguistic connection to Finns, but are an integral part to Finnish Lapland.

Kakslauttanen is the perfect spot to enjoy some of Arctic Europe’s best winter activities, while experiencing the Northern Lights.  While the aurora borealis is visible from October to March, we recommend visiting between December and March when the snow pack is at it’s peak.   The resort also offers photo safaris at night when the Northern Lights are visable.

While most guests visit Kakslauttanen during the wintertime, hopeful of seeing the northern lights, the resort is open all year long offering an equally wonderful selection of activities in the summertime.  From ATV rides, husky hikes, gold panning, horse riding to kayaking, canoeing and river cruises up into the Lemmenjoki National Park, there are activities for all ages during the summer months.

Hotel Kamp, Helsinki

The Hotel Kamp is an historic hotel (originally opened in 1887) that was completely restored and rebuilt in 1998. The new hotel comprises three separate buildings, including the original hotel, yet the feeling once inside is that of a unified and luxuriously modern hotel. It is practically impossible to tell the difference from the old part of the hotel from the newer parts. The larger suites have stunning views onto Helsinki’s main “Esplanade.” The Hotel Kamp is one of the few hotels in the world that feels luxurious, yet extremely comfortable at the same time—look for hard wood floors, oriental carpets, light and inviting décor and a state of the art fitness center on the top floor!

Guests of the hotel have complimentary access to the Kamp Spa where you can indulge in the eucalyptus steam room or Finnish style sauna. All rooms have wireless internet, air conditioning, and down duvets and pillows (synthetic linens available on request).
