As Lucerne’s top boutique hotel, the location is everything. The Des Balances building dates back to the 12th century and was previously a guildhall in one of Lucerne’s most sought-after locations. Converted to a hotel in the early 1800’s, it has retained much of its historic charm from frescos to tapestries, which have since been paired with contemporary elements during recent renovations. Perhaps the exterior of the hotel is more famous than the hotel itself. Inspired by the Swiss artist, Hans Holbein, the exterior is beautifully painted and admired by visitors and locals alike.
All 56 rooms are elegantly modern and well appointed. We recommend the Junior Suites due to their size and beautiful river views. Many also have a balcony.
Hotel Schweizerhof is one of the most historic hotels in Lucerne today, not to mention the first luxury hotel in Lucerne. Having recently undergone an extensive renovation, Schweizerhof is now firmly in the same league as some of the other luxury boutique hotels of Lucerne. The hotel has been family owned and operated since 1861, with each generation of hoteliers putting their own flavor into the hotel. Today it is a mix of art deco and 21st century styles.
The hotel’s restaurant enjoys a unique “Guest Chef” experience, which is popular among hotel guests and locals alike. In the summer the terrace is the place to be for live music and great cocktails. We suggest booking a room with a balcony to take in the lake views from the comfort of your room.
