Oslo - HOTELS

Travel in style with Exeters tips

The Thief, Oslo

One of our favorite hotels in Oslo, the Thief, is situated uniquely between canals and centrally to the city’s main sites and highlights. The Thief takes it’s name from not just the area in which it is located (Tjuvholmen or Theif’s Islet), but also from the many renown contemporary Norwegian art robberies, including Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” in 1994. With just 120 rooms, guests are almost always guaranteed a lovely view. This hotel is one of the most luxurious in all of Norway and displays it’s modern art theme throughout in its décor.

The neighborhood is an up-and-coming area of pedestrian zones, art galleries, restaurants and eclectic boutiques.  The hotel is just a short walk from the beach and the hotel offers bike rental, so you can explore like a local.  Just steps from the hotel is the Aker Brygge promenade, full of shops, cafes and museums. Rooms also come with complimentary admission to the Astrup Fearnly museum, located just next door.

The Thief also boasts wonderful amenities. Inside the hotel, you’ll find their beautiful spa oasis, including a hammam, traditional spa, steam room, sauna and fitness center. The hotels’ restaurant, Fru K, is an up and coming hot spot of Oslo, showcasing Nordic cuisine at it’s finest.  The Theif Foodbar on the rooftop is also not to be missed, by guest and visitor alike.  Open during the summertime, The Theif Foodbar has a wide range of gastronomic choices, as well as lengthy bar menu for guests to choose from.  The views over Oslo fjord and Akershus Fortress from the Theif Foodbar are simply breathtaking.

The hotel doesn’t follow the typical Scandinavian aesthetic of stark minimalism, resulting in a contemporary and quirky hotel unlike any others in the region.  The rich design and color scheme of this hotel balance harmoniously with it’s world famous art collection on display throughout every part of the hotel.  Working closely with the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art next door, the hotel’s curator has personally selected a number of pieces to display in the hotel.  The hotel has received numerous recent accolades and acclaim from the New York Times and Conde Nast.

Hotel Continental, Oslo

The Hotel Continental is located in the heart of the city right across from the National Theater. The hotel has been run by the same family since its opening in 1900. The intimate setting maintains its historic traditions combined with all the modern day amenities.  The property’s Theatercafeen is still the best spot to “see and be seen”, one hundred years later. All rooms are individually decorated.  The Junior Suites feature a large living room area, with a courtyard or city view, some offering balconies.
