Arrival into Athens where we will be met by your guide and driver. Your driver will be waiting for you just outside of Customs, after you pick up your luggage. Transfer to your hotel in the center of the city.

Athens, the cradle of the European civilization. For twenty-five centuries, the panorama of this city has been dominated by the rock of the Acropolis.

Y our guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at 10: 00am. This morning you will have the opportunity to visit the Acropolis Museum where for the first time ever all the surviving treasures of the Acropolis can be seen together in one place. Five collections make up this magnificent exhibit and include the finds from the slopes of the Acropolis, works of the archaic period, the classical Acropolis, the post-Parthenon and the Roman period.

For twenty-five centuries, the panorama of this city has been dominated by the rock of the Acropolis. You will follow your guide on foot uphill to visit the Acropolis and see the principal buildings: the Propylaia, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon Temple. You will also have some free time at the Acropolis for some photographs and to drink in the atmosphere of this amazing site.

Next your guide will take you for a short walk to the Ancient Agora. The Agora was the heart of Athens and the focus of political, commercial, administrative and social activity. The site has been occupied during all periods of the city’s history and was used as a residential and burial area as early as 3000 BC.

Continue to the Plaka area, an historic neighborhood filled with beautiful buildings, Byzantine churches, little shops, cafes and taverns. Y ou will also have the opportunity to walk around Monastiraki, an experience not to be missed.

This morning, your guide will meet you again in your hotel lobby at 10:00am. Today, enjoy a walking tour off the beaten path to understand how Athens has evolved to the city it is today-a city in layers, where the ancient, the ottoman, the neoclassical and the modern city coexist. During your walk, you will experience how
Athens, a small town of 10 000 citizens in the early 1830s, transformed into the capital of the new Greek State in 1834. Explore the neighborhoods where the footprint of the Ottoman Empire is still present, to understand how the old city and its traditions mixed or didn’t with western European values and ideas. Your guide will provide a true sense of in the city and its history for past to present.
