Day 1
Billund-Wadden Sea-Ribe | Photo by Thomas Skjold

Upon arrival into Billund on your KLM flight, pick up your rental car for the 1.5 hour drive to the Wadden Sea  on the west coast. Head to the Island of Fanø is the most northern, of the Danish Wadden Sea Islands. Go hunt for trolls or treasures. Enjoy the beach, and while you’re there, go try Blokarting, a beach cruiser, driven by a sail.

Or head into the National Park, an UNESCO World Heritage site, to go on a seal-safari, eagle safari or wolf safari. Fanø also has plenty of cycling routes and if you’re interested in golfing, Fanø has Denmark’s oldest golf course. If you’re interested in sea activities, you can also go kayaking or surfing.

If you visit during the spring or fall, you could see the Black Sun. This phenomenon is when thousands of starlings fly and circle synchronized, turning the sky black.

Afterwards, head to the town on Ribe for an overnight.

Day 3
Thy National Park | Photo by Mette Johnsen

Thy National Park is Denmark’s oldest national park, and it has a ton of exciting outdoor activities to try out. Go hiking, bicycling, or mountain biking on one of the many trails, through wild nature, in between aromatic pine trees and dune plantations. Dip your toes into one of the lakes in the area, or try horseback riding along the beach.

The Park also has one of Denmark’s most challenging golf courses. Enjoy a canoe-trip in Klitmøller, or for those, who want a little more action visit Cold Hawaii. Here you can have fun riding the wild waves of the North Sea, by trying wave-, wind- or kite surfing, or slow down, with a paddle board.

Day 5
Limfjorden-Middelfart-Billund | Photo by Daniel Villadsen

This morning, drive south for about two hours to reach Middelfart.

For anyone loving to get bird’s eye views, then we suggest the Bridge walking experience.  After strapping into a safety harness, begin your climb up the bridge to the summit at 200 feet.  The bridge is active with car and train crossings and the vehicles rumbling below add to the excitement!

For those that prefer to have their feet on the ground, stop in the Hindsgavl Nature Reserve.  This Park has plenty of trails for walking, biking or even horseback riding.

Another option is the area is to go on a whale watching safari.  You may be surprised to hear that there are whales off the coast of Denmark! They are one of the world’s smallest whales and resemble porpoises. Head out into the water to see the whales in action.

Afterwards, make the one-hour journey to Billund.
