Today you will meet your driver after you disembark for your journey through the Black Forest. This road, Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, starts in Baden-Baden and ends in Freudenstadt. At times it will take you to elevation above 1,000 meters above sea level.
You will first head to Baden-Baden. Baden-Baden is known as the “summer capital of Europe” – as an elegant spa resort-town, it was once the favorite vacation spot for the European aristocracy and still remains as one of the most beautiful and exclusive cities in Germany. Its abundance of green spaces, thermal baths and cultural offerings makes it a fabulous destination!
Today you will meet your guide for an overview tour of Baden-Baden. You will stroll through the old town, lying at the foot of the Castle Hill. There are several spa buildings you will see, one of them being the casino, where guests like Fyodor Dostoevsky tried their luck during the 19th century. You can also visit the Trinkhalle and its mineral water fountains, and stroll along the promenade of the Lichtentaler Allee.
Continue your drive through the Black Forest. You will pass by Hornisgrinde, the highest mountain of the forest at 1164 m. Just below it, you can stop by the glacial lake of Mummelsee. Finally, you will stop in Freudenstadt, a charming small town with typical arcaded houses and the largest marketplace in Germany.
Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your ship in Strasbourg.
