Today, meet your driver and guide on the pier for your overview tour of Cologne. Your guide and driver will take you past the city’s main sights. You will be able to see Heumarkt Square and City Hall (the oldest in all of Germany).
Along the way your guide will talk to you about Cologne’s history, including the dark period of World War II when the city was bombed by Allied forces and sustained heavy damage.
The highlight of your tour today will be your visit to the Cathedral, where you will enjoy a privately guided tour of this stunning and impressive building as well as the Roman church. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, this religious temple is the pride of the city, a landmark visible from every corner that survived WWII in spite of the extensive bombing. The first stone was placed in 1248, but it was not until 1880 that the cathedral reached completion based on the original Medieval plans.
Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your ship for an evening at leisure.
