Day 2
Gdansk | Gdansk

This morning your guide and driver will meet you in your hotel lobby for the drive to Old Town Gdansk.

Given Gdansk’s industrial heritage you will be pleasantly surprised to discover the charm and elegance of this port city during your guided walking tour this morning. Gdansk, or Danzig, as it was once called, is perhaps best known for the uprising led by Lech Walsea that resulted in the end of Communism in Poland.

Gdansk was an important center of the Hanseatic League for centuries. It had a strong German population prior to World War II, but after the war the Germans were expelled, leaving it to the Poles for the first time since 1308!

Enter Main Town, the historic center of Gdansk, through the 16th century Upland Gate. Don’t miss the coat of arms which depict Poland, Prussia and Gdansk – emblematic of the city’s history. Then continue your walk past some of the city’s finest architectural monuments dating back to the 14th century. You will also pass the notorious Renaissance Torture House and Gothic Prison Tower as you walk through the Golden Gate on Gluga Street.

Your guide will show you the Town Hall, full of character, Arthur’s Court Hall where the wealthy merchants of the 14th century used to live, and the Neptune Fountain – the symbol of Gdansk.

Please note that Main Town (the historic center of Gdansk) is entirely pedestrian. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

This afternoon return to your hotel and the rest of the day is at your leisure.
