Day 1
Arrival | Ljubljana

Arrival in Ljubljana this afternoon. Your driver and guide will meet you outside of Customs.

Today you may visit the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, the old mediaeval city by the river Ljubljanica, with its numerous cultural-historical monuments and its dominating old castle. You’ll see the building of the world’s second oldest philharmonic society where Gustav Mahler started his career. Today we suggest you take a walk through the Old Town district with your guide. Start off in front of the Baroque Town Hall building, the seat of the municipal government, with the famous Robba Fountain next to it, and continue across the lively fruit, vegetable and flower market designed by architect JoÏe Pleãnik, past the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. You will walk across Dragon Bridge, an Art Nouveau masterpiece adorned with a dragons, the symbol of Ljubljana, and stroll alongside the Ljubljanica River to the centrally located Presernovtrg square.

Afternoon transfer to Bled, where you will be staying at the delightful Relais & Chateaux Vila Bled, the former residence of President Tito, during your visit to Slovenia.

Day 2
Bled & Bohinj | Bled & Bohinj

This morning, your guide and driver will meet you at 10:00 AM to take you on a sightseeing tour of the charming Alpine lake towns of Bled and Bohinj. This morning we suggest a visit to the lake and a boat ride to the church, which stands on the island in the middle. The lake was formed after the recession of the Bohinj glacier. After the last Ice Age, the Bohinj glacier deepened the natural tectonic hollow and gave into its present form.

Later this morning, explore the beautiful Bled Castle. In 1004, the German Emperor Henrik II gave the Bled estate to Bishop Albuin of Brixen as a gift. The building was expanded and fortified since then and today there are several buildings that make up the castle complex. The most interesting of all the preserved buildings is certainly the chapel on the upper courtyard, which was consecrated to the Bishops St. Albuin and to St. Ingenium. It was built in the 16th century, and was renovated in the Baroque style around 1700, when it was also painted with illusionist frescoes. Today the castle is preserved as a museum, where you will be able to see various exhibits depicting the history of the region.

Proceed to the beautiful valley of the peaceful lake Bohinj, through the typical Alpine villages of the "Upper Valley" down to the gothic St. John the Baptist church at the end of a lake, which has well preserved frescoes from the 15th and the 16th century. The journey continues with cable car ride to mountain Vogel (1532 m), from where there is a wonderful view onto the Lake Bohinj and the Julian Alps. Return to Bled and Ljubljana through the ”Lower Valley”.

You will be treated to private wine tastings at some of the most select vineyards!

Late afternoon return to Bled and evening at leisure.

Tip! The end of September is a particularly good time to go to Maribor for the Autumn Embrace of the Vine Festival!
