Town & Country Grand Tour Prague

Sail down the beautiful rivers
Sail down the beautiful rivers

We are honored to be featured in the Town & Country Grand Tour. Created in conjunction with Wendy Perrin, the Exeter International destinations included are St. Petersburg and Prague. Gwen Kozlowski and Greg Tepper are the Wendy Perrin WOW experts for Central Europe and Russia, and are waiting to plan a dream trip for your client.

The Grand Tour was a travel term invented by Richard Lessels, in this 1670 book 'Voyage to Italy'. By the eighteenth century the roads of Europe were busy with elegant carriages taking gentlemen - and some ladies - to complete their education by way of travel.

No one knows this part of the world better than us. Our Staff has lived and worked in the region, so we are uniquely positioned to make a trip to one of our regions of expertise perfect. Many of our destinations were on the original Grand Tour, and today, our local knowledge will ensure that your client's Grand Tour is exactly as it should be!

Day 1
Arrival | Prague

Midday arrival into Prague from St. Petersburg.  You will be met by your driver for your transfer to the Augustine Hotel in the center of the city and in the heart of the historic district.

Perhaps more than any other city in Europe, Prague has kept its pre-modern charm. Spared the destruction of the Second World War, the ancient structures of the city still exist in their original state. Prague is still a walking city, designed over many centuries for the pedestrian and horses, alike. The inner old city lacks major avenues as found in Paris or Rome, giving the city its unique character.

Once you have arrived and settled, your guide will take you into the famous Old Town Square, where you will see the Astrological Clock, now a famous symbol and landmark of Prague. Be sure not to miss the fairytale-like Old Town Hall Tower, built in 1364, that stands above Old Town Square.  If you are feeling intrepid, you can even go to the top of the tower for a splendid view over the district.

Note: All touring today is on foot in largely pedestrian only areas.

Day 2
Prague | Prague

This morning your guide and driver will meet you for an overview tour of some of Prague’s top sites. Drive by the famous Dancing House and through the historical area of Vysehrad, with its 10th century fortress. You will also observe modern local Czech life with a drive through the bustling residential area of Vinohrady, once covered by vineyards. Afterwards, you'll head towards the Castle District and Hradčany.

The original castle was founded in the early 14th century, but has been rebuilt numerous times since then. When you first arrive at the monastery, you will almost certainly be taken by the sweeping views of Prague and the Vltava River.

 Exeter International Extraordinary Experience

As your tour continues through the monastery, you will be invited into the two main halls of the library (the Philosophical Hall and the Theological Hall). These two halls are always viewed by the public through the narrow doorways at the end of each room, but you will be allowed to enter the rooms on this VIP visit and walk alone among the ancient books and artifacts.

Included today will also be a visit to the Prague Castle complex. This castle, designed courtyards inside of courtyards, offers a fascinating view into the lives of the Czech monarchy. Step into the towering and wonderfully Neo-Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral, located inside the complex. Your day will end in the Malá Strana or Little Quarter, which is best known for the Wallenstein Palace and Church of St. Nicholas. Also, it is here in the Malá Strana that you will find many charming restaurants and unique shops full of Bohemian glass and the marionettes that are so famous in Prague.

Note: All touring today is on foot in largely pedestrian only areas.

Day 3
Prague | Prague

Today your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby, and take you through Prague’s famous Jewish Quarter. You will tour the historic synagogues, including the stunning Spanish Synagogue and the ancient Old-New Synagogue.  The Old-New Synagogue was built in the late 13th Century it is oldest synagogue still in use in Europe today. Legend has it that the Golem created by the Prague’s most famous rabbi, Rabbi Loew, is hidden in its attic.

While in the Jewish Quarter, you'll also visit the Old Jewish Cemetery, founded in the late 15th Century and still corresponding to its original medieval size. Over the centuries, more than 100,000 people are believed to have been buried here, the oldest tomb known being of the writer Rabbi Kara.

Later today, enjoy a private tour of the Municipal House. This magnificent building is an excellent example of art nouveau architecture in Prague. It was built between 1905 and 1911 and features lavish decoration both inside and outside designed by famous Czech artists, including Alfons Mucha. It was here where the Czechoslovak Republic was proclaimed on October 28, 1918.

Today, the Municipal House displays several exhibitions, but is primarily home to the Prague Symphony Orchestra. Its concert halls are some of Prague’s most impressive and significant concert halls, primarily due to their superior acoustics.

Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure to shop and relax.

Day 4
