Private Tour of the Bavarian Opera House
Today you will visit the Bavarian Opera House - Bayerische Staatsoper, for an exclusive private tour. Located in the popular Maximilianstrasse, just steps from the Old Town, the so-called National Theater building is home to the Opera, the Bavarian State Orchestra and the Bavarian State Ballet, and it is the largest opera house in Germany.
Initially commissioned by King Maximilian I on 1810, it was bombed during WWII and reopened again on 1963 featuring the current design. King Ludwig II, who was a fervent admirer of Richard Wagner, brought the composer to Munich where four of his masterworks where premiered. Works by Richard Strauss and Mozart were also premiered in this building.
A guide will greet you at the west entrance and will take you on a detailed exploration of this Munich institution. Rehearsals allowing, you will step on the stage – the third largest in the world, and on the impressive backstage.
