Best time To Go

Austria has a continental climate. High summer (July and August) can be hot and more crowded than usual. April, May and June and September and October are ideal times to visit for good weather, especially if you are planning to explore some of the wine regions.

If you are planning a visit to the Salzburg Summer Festival in July and August, plan well in advance.  This is the premier event of the year for concerts and opera and the city is at its peak.

One of the increasingly popular times to travel to Austria is in November for the Christmas Markets.    Vienna has a wide selection with unique gifts for all.

In December, Vienna hosts one of the most famous events in the European cultural calendar – the Kaiserball at the Hofburg Palace on New Years eve. Dine and dance the night away and see the New Year in in unforgettable style.

Where to Travel in Austria

The historic capital of the Habsburgs, Vienna has a sophistication and confidence not found elsewhere.  Baroque and immaculate, the city is easy to navigate.

Dedicate at least half a day to the stand-out Museum Quarter (MuseumsQuartier), home to about 70 cultural institutions. For a flavor of Habsburg style, visit the Schönbrunn Palace and Gardens, summer home to the imperial family. The Belvedere Palace now houses the largest collection of Austrian art, including the iconic Kiss by Gustav Klimt.

Make time to discover the many famous Viennese coffee houses with their delicious pastries!

Austria was home to Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss, and a performance at the Opera is not to be missed. Let the sound of music lure you to Salzburg, one of the most picturesque of Austrian cities, and explore Mozart’s birthplace and the nearby Lake District.

Austria is the perfect self-drive destination and just a couple of hours from Vienna by car is Burgenland. Sweeping landscapes and fantastic food and wine are the reasons to visit.
