Day 1- Almaty

Day 2- Almaty
Explore Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city known for its tree-lined boulevards. Named after ‘alma’ meaning ‘apple’, the city is surrounded by the stunning Tien Shan Mountains and thriving apple orchards.
Discover Panfilov Park and the impressive Zenkhov Cathedral made entirely of wood during our morning tour. Then, visit Independence Square before boarding your luxurious private train, the Golden Eagle, for a cozy stay in en-suite cabins. End the day with a delightful Welcome Dinner.

Day 3- Lake Issyk-Kul & Bishkek
Join us this morning for a guided tour of the open-air Museum of Petroglyphs at Lake Issyk-Kul, a sacred site once used by Saka priests for rituals to the sun god. Marvel at petroglyphs dating back to the Bronze Age and witness a historic Eagle Hunting demonstration, a tradition spanning 4,000 years.
In the afternoon, we explore Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan’s capital city rich in history from its days as a stop along the Great Silk Road. Visit Ala-Too Square, a symbol of Kyrgyz heritage, and take a city tour to discover parks filled with Soviet history and statues of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Dive into the past at the Memorial for the Red Guards.

Day 4- Tashkent
This afternoon we explore Tashkent, the vibrant capital of Uzbekistan. Discover the unique blend of modern Soviet architecture and traditional charm that arose from the city’s reconstruction after the 1966 earthquake.
Our tour will take us through Tashkent’s historic Old Town, where ancient homes and religious sites dot the picturesque streets.
Don’t miss the chance to view one of Islam’s holiest treasures – the oldest Koran in existence, housed in a quaint library. Afterwards, immerse yourself in the rich history of Tashkent with visits to the Railway Museum and Museum of Applied Arts.

Day 5- Bukhara
Today, we will experience the charm of Bukhara.. Discover historical landmarks like The Ark, once home to the Emirs of Bukhara, and the magnificent Poi-Kalyan Square with its iconic Kalyan Mosque.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Bukhara as we visit bustling Trading Domes and gather at the lively Lyabi-Hauz Square surrounded by mulberry trees and tea rooms. Venture outside the city to explore the enchanting ‘Palace of the Moon and Stars’.
End your day with a delightful barbecue on the station platform before our train departs, weather permitting.

Day 6- Merv
Discover the ancient city of Merv, a prominent Silk Road stopover that briefly held the title of the world’s largest city in the 12th century. However, in 1794, its downfall was sealed when the Emir of Bukhara destroyed the crucial dam that supplied water to its population.

Day 7: Ashgabat & Darvaza
Today, we make our way to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan’s vibrant capital dubbed the ‘Las Vegas of the Kara Kum’. Nestled between the desert and mountains, this modern city rises from the ancient Silk Road ruins of Konjikala. Marvel at its opulent fountains, golden domes, and futuristic skyscrapers against a desert backdrop.
Explore highlights like the National Museum and Kipchak Mosque. Hop off the Golden Eagle train at Ichoguz for an optional excursion to witness the mesmerizing Darvaza gas crater, known as the ‘Door to Hell’. Burning for over 40 years in the heart of the Kara Kum desert, this unique natural wonder is a must-see spectacle best experienced at night.

Day 8: Khiva
Today, we will explore the ancient city of Khiva, a historic gem dating back 2,500 years. Today, we embark on a journey through ancient cities and traditional crafts in Uzbekistan. Discover the secrets of silk production at the renowned Margilan Factory, where 6,000 meters of silk are handwoven each month using traditional methods. Explore the intricate process from mulberry trees to colorful ikat fabric.
Continue to Rishtan to witness world-famous ceramic craftsmanship from local artisan Rustam Usmanov. Experience a close-up demonstration of pottery-making by a master professional and admire the meticulous artistry behind decorating these exquisite ceramics.
In Kokand, explore historical landmarks such as the Palace of Khudayar Khan and Jami Mosque, steeped in Silk Road history. Conclude your journey with a memorable Farewell Dinner aboard the Golden Eagle in Tashkent.
