Learn to Make Your Own Matryoshka Stacking Dolls

Why go to Russia to see matryoshka dolls created by other people when you can make your own?! We’ll arrange for a local artist to lead your family through the delicate techniques of designing and painting your own keepsake stacking dolls. Take these treasures home with you to keep after the class. Truly one of the most memorable Russian experiences for your family to enjoy together! Matryoshka stacking doll classes are customarily held in St. Petersburg at the historic Sheremetev Palace, which houses a large collection of musical instruments and exhibitions of fine art from the 18-20th centuries.

 Carriage Ride at Pavlovsk

The lush English gardens of Pavlovsk Palace are legendary. A former summer residence of a Russian emperor, the parks surrounding this palace are so vast that nothing beats a thrilling carriage ride through the enchanting grounds, which were originally designed and constructed in the late 18th century. The whole family can enjoy Russia’s famous troika sled without the cold and ice this summer!

Biking in the Palace Gardens

Does something more active suit your family’s vacation style? Biking through the gardens at Pavlovsk Palace is another great way to experience these gorgeous landscapes with your family. Your guide will bring you to all of the highlights that are peppered throughout the sprawling park grounds, including the many buildings designed and built for the pure pleasure and entertainment of the tsar. Look for the Temple of Friendship, Slavyanka River, and the private garden of Maria Feodorovna, the widow of Russian Emperor Paul who lived at Pavlovsk in the early 19th century.

Artillery Museum

One of the most unusual museums in St. Petersburg, the Artillery Museum features everything from 17th century weapons of war to World War II tanks and artillery. For anyone in your family who interested in WWII, or any aspect of weapons used during the conflicts Russia has seen as its empire expanded, this is a fascinating collection. For your kids, the open-air artillery exhibit and the missile launchers on display in the courtyard of the Artillery Museum may be the main attraction. Founded in 1703, the museum is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

 Pelmeni Cooking Class

For a truly unique Russian experience, step into the kitchen of one of the leading traditional Russian restaurants of the city. Here, your family will learn from the restaurant’s head chef. Discover how he makes Russia’s most famous dish- the dumpling - known here as pelmeni. Each ingredient is fresh and homemade from scratch. This is truly an experience for the whole family to savor! Your newfound cooking skills will be a one-of-a-kind St. Petersburg keepsake.
