Baur au Lac is one of the oldest luxury hotels and has been owned by the same family for six generations. This grand hotel is nestled in its own private park in the center of Zurich’s business district, within walking distance of Zurich lake and Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s chic shopping street. It offers 119 rooms and suites that are all decorated in different styles, yet all have modern features.
Recipient of a Michelin star fine-dining Restaurant Pavillon features seasonal and contemporary French cuisine. For small bites and sweets, head to Le Hall in the elegant lobby. In the winter, they offer an Afternoon Tea as well.
The Storchen is Zurich’s most charming hotel. Storchen means Stork in German, and you will see motifs of the bird throughout the decor. Boutique, with just 66 rooms and suites this is the oldest hotel in Zurich, and one of the oldest and most historic hotels in the world – in operation since 1357! Now firmly in the 21st century the hotel has had a major refurbishment giving it a fresh, modern and classically contemporary look. The rooms are striking, and light filled. Due to the age of the building, some of the rooms are on the smaller side, so for the most spacious rooms opt for a Junior Suite, or Panoramic Corner room.
The Storchen also lays claim to possibly the best views in Zurich. It is the ONLY hotel on the River Limmat, and both the hotel bar – Barcetta, and the Rotisserie Restaurant having unlimited river views. Both are well regarded and patronized by locals, and you can enjoy breakfast with a view!
